El Día de los Padres was celebrated on Wednesday, in which we had a special service in their honor. Praise the Lord, there were many fathers in attendance who had never previously stepped foot in the church. Even though there was a clear presentation of the Gospel, there were no professions of faith made among the adults. However, in the kids’ zone, our Heavenly Father had prepared the hearts of three precious children who placed their faith Him! Hallelujah!
In other news, the Swine flu count continues to escalade. There are 220 confirmed cases in Guatemala. Last week I did a little car shopping. I went to a few dealerships to get information on certain cars that are not sold in the US, like the Nissan X-Trail and the Ford Eco Sport. Tomorrow I will spend most of the day in Sumpango with the church group from Florida, who arrived earlier today. Thanks for your continued support through prayer.

I was privileged to spend some time in Tikal National Park with Mindy and Christine. This park contains the most preserved and well-known Mayan pyramids in the country. It was good for me to be there and learn first hand about the traditions and customs of the ancestors of the Guatemalan people. It was especially memorable to experience this with my new teammates! : ) |

This morning while I was eating breakfast, all of the sudden my stomach felt like it was doing summersaults! I wasn’t sick. It was an earthquake! I’m glad it was only about 30 seconds. I had another interesting thing happen to me yesterday as I was making a house visit with Christine McKnight. The house sat down off of the dirt road. As we were walking down this slanted path to her house a rat ran across my foot! I didn’t want to offend the lady by screaming (she was in front of me and didn’t see it), but I guess I gasped fairly loud because Christine turned to look at me. I was glad the rat fell off the path and scurried off, because everyone noticed it then and we all laughed! : ) I added more pictures in the photo gallery of various events (Feeding center, church, kids club and a few photos around Sumpango). Hope you enjoy them!

Yesterday I wrote that there are 22 confirmed cases of the Swine flu here in Guatemala. That is incorrect. The number of confirmed cases is 85. As I said, all the schools in the entire country are closed until July 1st. Because of a recommendation from the Health Department, we will be closing the feeding center for two weeks starting Monday. Well, we are still going to give them food, but it will be raw, so they will be able to prepare it at there home. Hopefully, this will still be a blessing for these precious children and their families.
